France, 1959. At the start of Lent, Vianne and her young daughter arrive in a quiet, conservative village and open a chocolate shop right across from the church. Her magical sweets bring the townspeople back to life, and enrage the rigid mayor. When a charming drifter moors his boat on the river, the village will never be the same.

Directed by Lasse Hallström | 2h 1m. Nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
